Sustainable travel - new ways of mobility in culture

Place Grosse Halle

Language English

Friday 19.5. 17:30 - 20:00

A knowledge exchange for Swiss cultural organisers & artists

Organised with ISC Club Bern and Vert le Futur - Association for Sustainable Culture.

Most cultural organisers are probably aware that air travel is more harmful to the environment than train travel. It is clear that mobility causes the most CO2 in the cultural sector and is therefore the area where changes have the greatest impact. But what does that mean, for example, in relation to the programme, finances and private life? Is a club allowed to book a DJ from Detroit instead of a DJ from Zurich for artistic reasons? How does a theatre festival deal with the fact that the flight ticekt from Madrid to Zurich costs a fifth of the train ticket for the same route? What does a musician do when, for family reasons, there is not enough time to travel to a concert by train, but there is by plane? These and other questions will be explored in this knowledge exchange.

The first part of the event consists of short inputs and a panel discussion. In the second part, we will discuss at tables and have a meal.

The following guests will be present for short inputs and a panel discussion (moderated by Barbara Schmid, Biovision):
– Cosima Grand, dancer & choreographer
– Christoph «Biru» Haller, Booking national and international at Gurtenfestival Bern
– Adel Abdelwahab, artist and organiser from Alexandria (per Zoom)
– Tobias Brenk, Kaserne Basel, Des. Artistic Director
- Prof. Hua Cai, Industrial Engineering, Environmental and Ecological Engineering, Purdue University; Institute of Environmental Engineering (IfU), ETH Zurich (Visiting Professor)
